What a great reminder and lesson. I guess the trick here is to working on stacking all your chips while saying NO? and along the way, say YES ever so often. Howard, wish you the greatest things.

Great post. It is so easy to become distracted by opportunity. Good ideas are everywhere and its tempting to get involved in everything. Staying focused helps good ideas turn into great ones. Easier said than done though.....

No works. Now if I can only convince my client to say no to the random opportunities that they come across.

Its easy to say NO. The hard part is to make someone feel good while saying NO. Good enough to come back for another (likely) NO.

With so much going on around us, and around the world, and so many people sharing stuff, information is widely availabe. Time and attention become scarce. Being a VC i guess is "easier" to keep up because you can sort of participate in many things that go on at the same time, by investing in companies that target a trend. Bigger problem is for entrepreneurs that have to run a day to day business, can't keep up with the news, let alone the many opportunities that appear every day. Focus, focus, focus should be the mantra of the entrepreneur. Easier to say, harder to do.

Love the term Howard, first saw you refer to it in your video with Fred Wilson.
